Program Focus: The goal of the counseling program is to promote the personal, social, academic, and career development of Watts students through direct and indirect services.
Management
Management of the school counseling program is done through counselor competency and counseling program assessments, use-of-time audits, annual agreements, advisory councils, use of data, curriculum and closing-the-gap action plans, and annual and weekly calendars.
Delivery
Direct Student Services:
- School counseling core curriculum delivered through structured lessons
- Individual student planning to assist students in achieving personal, academic, and career goals
- Responsive services to meet students' immediate needs and concerns
Indirect Student Services:
- Referrals for additional assistance
- Consultation and collaboration with parents, teacher, other educators, and community organizations
Accountability
School counselors gather and analyze data to show:
- How students are different as a result of the program
- Impact of program on student achievement, behavior, and attendance
- Guide future action and improve future results for all students
